With gas prices climbing again (premium is around $1.85/L here in Ontario today), I’m curious what other owners are doing.

I have a 2023 Volvo XC60 B6 and Volvo recommends premium, but the engine can obviously adjust timing if you run regular.

For those who have tried both:

  • Do you always run premium (91–93)?
  • Has anyone run 87 regularly and noticed much difference in performance or fuel economy?
  • Any long-term concerns from people who have done it for a while?

I’m not trying to cheap out if premium really makes a difference, just curious what real-world experience from other B6 owners has been.

It'll be fine. All modern cars have computer controlled ignition timing and will retard the timing a smidge if there's any sign of pre-ignition. You might lose a little performance and gas mileage but I doubt you'll notice it. I use regular in my Lexus LS460 and have done so since new.
